Registration Process

From the applicant perspective, the process is straightforward: He or she signs up electronically, prints out the form and sends it to a local Registration Point. The fee may be paid in various ways (according to local customs). The membership number and password is then sent by e-mail. (If deemed necessary, the applicant may also be required to send a proof of identity -- e.g. copy of identification document -- together with the printed form.)

The Registration Point receives an electronic copy of the applicant data, the snail mail letter and the fee. All the Registration Point does is to send a notice to the ALSO Secretariat that e.g. application US1234 should be activated. The fees can then be transferred e.g. twice a year. The company or organization behind the Registration Point may include its logo on the web page (which is located on the ALSO web server).

The ALSO Secretariat's work during registration should be almost completely automatic: It receives the applicant data and sends out the membership information after receiving the notice from the Registration Point. The postage costs are carried by the applicant.
